Five emerging artists from Canberra Glassworks and five artists from Jam Factory Contemporary Craft & Design in Adelaide have been selected for the Made in Australia exhibition in Berlin, Germany.
Canberra Glassworks artists include Luke Chiswell, Rose-Mary Faulkner, Emeirely Nucifora-Ryan, Jennifer Kemarre Martiniello and Nicholas Doran Adams. JamFactory artists include Emma Young, Renato Perez, Kristel Britcher, Liam Fleming and Billy Crellin. Works from these artists will be showcased at the Made in Australia exhibition to be presented at the prestigious design gallery Benhadj & Djilali Galerie from 29 June until 13 July 2017 in Berlin.
Coordinated by Berlin Glas, the exhibition brings the three glass organisations together to create new opportunities for associates and alumni of the JamFactory training programme and the Canberra Glassworks artistic community, and showcase their innovative and unique works in a new international design context.
Ties between the contemporary glass industries of the two countries go a long way back, and were first initiated through the late Klaus Moje AO (1936 - 2016) from Hamburg, who established the Glass Workshop at ANU School of Art and was integral to the development of Canberra Glassworks. Nadania Idriss, Founder and Director of Berlin Glas, has strong ties with Australian glass artists after attending the biennial Ausglass conference at JamFactory in 2015, as well as through her work internationally.
Nadania views Made in Australia as a tremendous opportunity to showcase the high level of talent fostered by both Australian universities and public institutions such as Canberra Glassworks and JamFactory.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is supporting this project as part of their Australia now Germany 2017 program.
The Made in Australia exhibition will be held from 29 June until 13 July 2017 at Benhadj & Djilali Galerie, Berlin, Germany.
