A design student from the University of Canberra has won the 2015
Australasian Graduate of the Year Awards (AGOTYA). Dylan White, an Object and
Industrial Design graduate from the University of Canberra won the AGOTYA
‘Award of Excellence’ for his design projects submitted to the competition,
beating several graduates in Australia and New Zealand from five other design
categories to claim the overall prize.
Judges in the AGOTYA programme unanimously awarded Dylan the major prize
for his ‘high level of capability, knowledge and creative skill – and ability
to find the balance between art and science’. The judges were all impressed
with the exceptionally high level of research and development that had gone
into each project, especially since each project belonged to a different
industry.
An annual awards programme administered by the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), the AGOTYA competition invites tertiary institutions from
Australia and New Zealand to nominate the work of their best design graduates
from the preceding year.
Dylan won $1,000 cash sponsored by Architecture Media, and a profile in
Artichoke magazine and the DIA Spark national newsletter, sponsored by
Architecture Media and the DIA. He thoughtfully donated a portion of his award
($200) to the Central West NSW Headspace to assist in its fundraising
initiative to help young adults take control of their mental wellbeing.
