The BINQ success story began when one of the founding partners wanted bifold doors for his house and was left disappointed with the products in the market. He decided to build the doors himself after purchasing the timber and hardware. On completion, he put them up for sale on eBay and made a tidy profit. Sensing an opportunity, he partnered with his brother to make and sell the doors in different sizes.
The business took off and the brothers were forced to move from their carport to a proper factory to cater to the increasing number of orders. Two more brothers joined the business and Brothers Incorporated (shortened to Binq) was born on January 19, 2009.
However, two weeks after their official opening, the government officially announced the GFC, and the orders stopped coming in. Pooling in their personal funds, the brothers began to cold call and received their first order for bifold doors within a week. They noticed they were losing sales since they didn’t make windows. Confident that they could apply their knowledge of bifolds into manufacturing windows, they did a lot of research and headed to an exhibition in Germany, where they visited different factories and spoke to industry experts.
Impressed by the Germans’ ability to make triple glazed tilt turn windows with high security in less than a third of the time it took them to make an awning window for a toilet, they decided to adopt the German design philosophy in their manufacturing. Realising that they had the opportunity to completely revolutionise the window and door industry in Australia, they began investing heavily in design, software, machinery and processes.
Binq decided to specialise in offering competitively priced timber products that provided higher energy ratings with a low maintenance option backed by a 10-year warranty.
Today, Binq has outgrown their factory three times over and is now located in a 2000-square-metre factory in Chelsea Heights with over a million dollars' worth of German made CNC machinery, and 25 fulltime employees.
Binq manufactures German spec high performance doors and windows. Their windows can lock in up to 20 spots with the turn of a handle, and survive much higher wind loads than the industry standard.
Binq’s lift slide doors are the biggest doors available in the market, measuring over 3m high and up to 6m wide with just two panels, or 18m wide with six panels.
Binq continues to invest in R&D on existing and new products to further enhance their performance, and make these products available to all sectors of the market.
