Taubmans paint systems were specified for the exterior and interior finishes at the Village Quays (VQ) Harbour Views apartment building in Rhodes.

The 24-level VQ Harbour Views building, one of five in the Village Quays development, offers spectacular vistas and lives up to the promise of its name.

Architect firm SJB Architecture and Billbergia, the developer, collaborated on the design of the architectural form of the VQ Harbour Views project. The outcome of this collaboration is a sharply designed building, formal in expression, and very understated. The exterior of the building is composed of precast concrete vertical panels and balustrade upstands in strong, repeating geometric patterns. Glazing is expressed and framed in anodised aluminium commercial frames for a smart appearance.

Seeking a paint manufacturer and supplier that would provide the highest level of service and high quality products, Billbergia decided to partner with Taubmans, extending a longstanding relationship between the two companies across six projects in four years.

With much of the exterior of the building requiring a paint finish, Taubmans proposed the Armawall system; the facade was painted in a simple palette of crisp white, light grey and dark grey with the neutral colour scheme extended across all five buildings at Village Quays. Armawall paints offer high resistance to fading, blistering, mould development and other forms of ageing for a significant period, benefitting residents through lower upkeep effort and maintenance cost.

For the interiors, apartment buyers had a choice of two palettes, broadly defined as ‘light’ and ‘dark’ schemes. Similar to the exterior, the interiors were designed with an understated appearance in mind, one that best captured the presence of natural light, and framed the excellent views. Taubmans Pure Performance was specified in the project for its low VOC content, value for money, and durability. Low VOC paints provide significantly better indoor air quality, by reducing an effect called ‘off-gassing’. Pure Performance has been approved by the National Asthma Council of Australia’s Sensitive Choice program.

The challenge with creating high-end multiple residential developments in inner city locations is to balance economy against the provision of luxury, convenience and good amenity. Backed by excellent service levels and rated for many years of good performance, Taubmans paint products help designers, specifiers and developers meet their ambitious objectives as demonstrated in the exceptional outcomes achieved at Village Quays.
