The Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre is being readied to host events for the upcoming XXI Commonwealth Games in 2018. In preparation for this international event, the Carrara Sports Precinct has undergone significant redevelopment, which includes the addition of the new Sports and Leisure Centre. Designed by BVN Architecture and constructed by Hansen Yuncken, the new facility comprises of two large sports halls for the badminton and wrestling competitions.

Custom louvres from Safetyline Jalousie have been installed in the new Sports and Leisure Centre to provide natural ventilation as well as form an integral part of the smoke exhaust system. Measuring about 3 metres high with widths up to 1.4m, each louvre window maximises airflow in the building.

Key features of the custom made louvre windows include tinted laminate glass louvres; powder-coated finish in the speciality Carrara Gold colour to match the external façade; and fire rated actuators from EBSA Mechanical in each frame. In the event of a fire, the automated smoke control system will engage the louvres to open and allow fresh air to enter the building while large exhaust fans remove the smoke.

Safetyline Jalousie supplied 180 louvre windows in various sizes for the project, with height ranging from 2899mm (21 blades) up to 3054mm (22 blades), and width ranging from 1080mm up to 1400mm. The louvre frames were finished in Dulux Electro Medium Bronze or Interpon Carrara Gold, while the louvres were made from 6.38mm green laminate glass or powder-coated aluminium.
