Remedial Building Services Australia was contracted by The Zoological Parks Board of NSW to install a non-slip, easy-to-clean, and impact- and traffic-resistant floor in the toilet blocks located within the Taronga Zoo. Remedial had previously refurbished the bar floor of the Function Room at the zoo and was called again for the latest project.

A key requirement of the project brief was to minimise disturbance to zoo visitors during the execution of the project. After the toilet block was washed and disinfected, the Remedial team prepared the floor surface using vacuum shrouded diamond grinders to minimise dust emission. The floors were then trowelled with 2-3mm of epoxy mortar and sealed with two coats of SF20 epoxy sealer.

To minimise disruption to the patrons of the zoo, Remedial’s team worked hours that minimised their visibility. Though the toilet block was out of action for three days, the team was able to deliver a safe, non-slip, sealed surface that was also easy to clean and disinfect. The newly applied epoxy floor covering is suitable for aggressive cleaning methods, common in public toilets.

Remedial has extensive experience in the application of easy-to-clean hard-wearing floors and can tailor a solution to specific needs.

Since the completion of the latest project, the Zoological Park has already asked Remedial Building Services to provide solutions for other areas within the zoo.
