Bespoke lighting specialist ilanel design studio supplied a custom pendant light for The Malt District development in Melbourne’s Cremorne. Home to the iconic Nylex clock and silos, the site inspired the design of ‘The Silo’.

The twin pendant light pays tribute to the existing fabric of the site, including the cylindrical shape and the gable roof on top of the silos, as well as the new architectural form designed by Fender Katsalidis Architects.

Key features of the new twin pendant lights, ‘The Silo’ include Ilanel’s signature perforated ‘slots’ on the pendant, similar to the ladders on the spine of the silos; slots filtering light out to create a multi-dimensional object; and powder-coated finish in flat black (with raw aluminium on the inside). The light fitting hangs from a single ceiling base over the kitchen island bench within the 209 Coppins Corner apartments.

Established in 2010 by Ilan El, ilanel design studio has supplied their creations to a broad range of commercial and residential projects including The Four Seasons Hotels in Qatar and Morocco, the Renaissance Hotel in New York, as well as local projects such as the Justin Art House Museum (JAHM) in Prahran, Melbourne, the Royal Bank Chambers in Melbourne's CBD, the Kit and Ace stores in Prahran and Chadstone, Melbourne, and Martin Place, Sydney.
