Concrete wall and flooring specialist Honestone recommended its PanDOMO FloorPlus polished concrete floor for the student accommodation facilities developed by Urbanest in Sydney.
Urbanest is well known for providing top-notch student accommodation that is distinctive, interactive and extremely functional, with students enjoying a high quality of life with the best rooms, study areas and social spaces as well as a great support network. Founded in 2008, the Urbanest network now spans Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
Honestone worked with Bates Smart Architects and Urbanest to ensure the accommodation facilities at the Darlington residence in City Rd, Sydney were of the highest grade. Though Urbanest wanted to install vinyl flooring, it was drawn to the functionality and attractiveness of concrete polishing provided by PanDOMO FloorPlus from Honestone.
Similar to a burnished levelled concrete look, the FloorPlus finish provides a minimal trowelled surface with the unique texture ideal for independent design concepts. Being a thin application, the trowel-on finish suits all situations from low traffic residential through to heavy foot traffic. Honestone director Rick Hendriks said PanDOMO flooring was installed to give a ‘perfect’ finish to the studious environment, delivering a functional, yet casual, and smooth finish to the grounds, and offering students an inviting environment to meld study and social activities.
PanDOMO FloorPlus is self-levelling and used to create a lightly polished concrete floor without an exposed aggregate look. The fine flooring finish can be tinted to a variety of colours to express an individual design, and has a natural finish. A grey PanDOMO FloorPlus product 10/3.1 was used in the Urbanest application.
According to Mr Hendriks, the end result created an environment for students that exuded a sense of educational functionality and was also in sync with a top class facility. He recommends similar floor finishes for unlimited spaces, including university facilities, retail stores and showrooms, high end residential properties, shopping malls, manufacturing spaces, restaurants, offices and communal outdoor areas.
In addition to polished concrete floors, Honestone also offers terrazzo flooring, alternative epoxy flooring/ coatings, concrete levelling and concrete grinding among other flooring solutions.
