Simplifying Commercial Washroom Design Through Modularity

    Dolphin Dispensers

The popularity of modular design in commercial projects is continuing to grow. From saving time in installation to offering a low-cost alternative to traditional construction methods, the benefits are wide-ranging.

In washrooms, in particular, modularisation is gaining ground. At a time when aspects such as user experience, improved hygiene and easy maintenance access are high on the agendas of building professionals focused on washrooms for commercial environments, modular elements, such as cabinet systems, are in high demand.

Prefabricated elements in washrooms can be of huge benefit in the creation of commercial bathrooms. Research has shown that including modular elements increases the speed of construction by up to 50 per cent. Traditionally, the bathroom is one of the most complex rooms in a building – with skills from a variety of different tradespeople such as plumbers, electricians and tilers required. By constructing off-site, the amount of labourers needed is minimised dramatically, thus saving hugely on labour. Prefabrication, as a result, saves costs, but not only in terms of labour. Building off-site also means that there is less waste of materials, reduced construction traffic and transportation. The combination of these factors results in a significantly reduced bill at the end of the project. Prefabrication also means that the quality of the products can be controlled much more easily than when produced on-site – any products that leave the manufacturing facility will be of a consistently high standard.

The Dolphin ALAVO behind mirror modular washroom system is one product that is offering these benefits to washroom specifiers. As all elements are integrated, ALAVO reduces the time and costs associated with design and installation of commercial washrooms. The system is designed to ensure all water services are fully accessible for maintenance purposes; automatic foam soap dispensers dispense a pre-measured quantity of soap ensuring minimised wastage and the hand dryers dry hands in 13 seconds – using up to 70 per cent less energy than their traditional counterparts.

The Dolphin ALAVO system & Behind Mirror design has been tried and tested in many high traffic location including shopping centres, nightclubs and perhaps the harshest environment possible – the airport terminal. Alavo and Behind Mirror systems currently operate in Canberra International Airport, Sydney Airport Terminal 1, Dublin Airport Terminal 2, Adelaide Airport and Nadi International Airport Fiji where the frequency of use translates to real cost savings for the facility.
