Australian Glass Group was engaged by Commercial Windows to provide a suitable glazing solution for their client’s new office in Cardiff.

The client, Alphacare had recently moved to a new location on Munibung Road in Cardiff but the new office facility had several challenges. Noise pollution from neighbouring auto body workshops and welding shops was a major concern. Being a standalone structure, the office building was exposed to external heat from all sides, directly impacting staff productivity and a cohesive work environment. The solution also needed to ensure a single consistent look and feel to the building.

Commercial Windows (NSW), which is known for installations at hospitals, schools and government facilities as well as residential units, secured the project.

Commercial Windows provided a complete solution to Alphacare consisting of a broad range of products from Australian Glass Group. These included Insulglass Select Double Glazed Units (IGU) for the façade featuring 6mm Grey Toughened glass outside with 6mm Energy Advantage on the inside and 12mm argon in between in addition to DesignKote for the spandrel. The spandrel was colour matched to the 6mm Grey Toughened glass for a consistent look and feel from the outside.

Energy Advantage glass used in the IGUs is ideal for this building as it has exceptional solar heat gain (SHGC) properties and is designed to assist with passive solar heating by enabling the sun’s warmth to enter the building, capturing it inside and then reducing any heat loss. The canopy for the entrance was constructed using 4 x 13.52mm clear toughened PVB laminate. Dimensional accuracy was critical for this application as the laminate glass was getting fixed between 5 ‘T’ bars.

Once the products were selected for the project, it took Commercial Windows less than three weeks to order their glass requirements and complete the installation. Happy with the communication levels maintained by AGG as well as the timely stock deliveries, the company looks forward to working together on future projects.
