Architect Jarrad Needhamof Ajar Workshop chose a series of door and window systems from Architectural Window Systems for his own home in the ACT’s beautiful Molonglo Valley.

The first of 13 suburbs to be built in the area, Wright was liberally dotted with stock-standard project homes. When Jarrad Needham and his wife decided to put down roots in the area, they chose to design the house themselves to suit their needs.

Though the local building code strictly dictated the size of the small three-bedroom home’s envelope, the couple was able to creatively work through these restrictions using everyday building materials such as plywood and plasterboard.

Keeping efficiency and sustainability as their primary goals for the Wright House, the Needhams chose the right window and door systems from AWS to ensure the home met the highest environmental standards and delivered optimal airflow.

Working with fabricators, Monaro Windows, the couple selected AWS Series 50 hinged doors and Series 463 double hung windows for installation throughout much of the dwelling. Additionally, AWS Series 618 sliding doors were chosen for a seamless floor-level transition between the outdoors and the interior of the home.

The correct choice of materials helped Jarrad Needham achieve a stunning home boasting a 7 star energy rating with no need for noisy reverse-cycle air conditioners while ensuring simple interior temperature control even in the height of summer.
