Residents of Liverpool and Parramatta in western Sydney are set to reap the benefits of international designers and world-class designs.
The first of the builds is the Woods Bagot designed, 8 Phillip Street in Parramatta which will comprise 314 residences, with apartments to include one, two and three bedroom configurations, as well as studio and penthouse options.
When completed in 2020, the development will see apartments incorporating a range of contemporary design elements.
With a twisting rhomboid design and mesh-embedded glass cladding, the 55-storey tower is designed to stand out in the Parramatta skyline.
The tower will also boast a rooftop bar, which is set to provide views of the Sydney CBD skyline and be able to accommodate 600 patrons and is set to become Sydney’s highest rooftop bar.
Another feature of the building will be its the residential entrance, which will be accessed through the heritage-listed St Andrew’s Hall, constructed in 1926.
The inspiration for the project has been drawn from the designs of existing heritage integration projects in both the USA and Europe.
According to Woods Bagot’s director, Domenic Alvaro, resolving the challenge of how to successfully integrate the project with the existing heritage buildings has been one of the project’s triumphs.
“We made the bold move of integrating St Andrew’s Hall directly into this magnificent contemporary building, with the development poised to sit atop the existing hall, and its inherent internal structure to be the feature of a stunning new residential entrance,” says Alvaro.
“Also, the spire of St Andrew’s Church is reflected in the design of the building’s lower levels, and is echoed in views of the building from all approaches, thus making the heritage structure the hero of the area.”
Down the M4 in Liverpool, also designed by Woods Bagot, The Paper Mill, The Gild, The Bindery and The Foundry are destined to be home to nearly 3,000 residents in 1,045 apartments set across four buildings on the banks of the Georges River.
When complete, the precinct will transform Liverpool into a ‘river city’ only moments away from Western Sydney University’s new Higher Education Centre in the Liverpool CBD, and Sydney’s second airport at Badgery’s Creek.
To add to the transformative nature of these projects, Durie Design will be designing the landscaping at Liverpool’s Paper Mill, and will also be responsible for all the landscape elements at Parramatta’s 55-storey tower at 8 Phillip Street.
“Our design concepts aim to create a sense of community, especially through the clever planning of gardens and green spaces,” says founder Jamie Durie about his plans for The Paper Mill.
Meanwhile, at Parramatta’s 8 Phillip Street, Durie says he plans to apply his ‘transterior’ philosophy, which involves creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces.
“We’ll be implementing this quintessentially Australian style of living in the tower’s entrance, rooftop bar, pool terrace and streetscape, while the rooftop garden will feature contemporary native Australian species, planted to create a secret garden oasis with intimate gathering spaces,” he added.
