Victorian architecture firms have come out on top at the 2016 ArchiTeam Awards.

Reflecting new patterns of living and working in Australia, this year’s awards saw four Victorian and one Queensland practice walk away as category winners, with a further five practices receiving commendations.

A few firms claimed multiple awards. Edition Office’s Fish Creek was named the winner of the residential category, while its Cambridge Street project received a commercial commendation. Krishna Cheung was awarded the major commercial award for its Studio Garage, and its Black House received a residential commendation.

Judging this year's awards were Mel Bright of Make Architecture, Juliet Moore of Edwards Moore and Philip Thalis for Hill Thalis Architecture + Urban Projects.

ZoĆ« Geyer, ArchiTeam director said, “the quality and number of entries this year was unprecedented, with many projects showing how intelligent, adaptive, small footprint design solutions can result in better design outcomes for those living or working in the buildings.”
