Qatar has unveiled the name and design of a new 60,000-seater stadium in Al Khor ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The venue and surrounding precinct will be known as Al Bayt, Al Khor City, and is a proposed semi-final venue for FIFA's flagship tournament.

Designed by Dar Al Handasah, the modular stadium was modeled after black-and-white tents traditionally used by nomadic people in Qatar and includes retail space, restaurants and new landscaped paths for residents to use.

A detachable upper tier allows the stadium to be downsize in capacity to 32,000 seats, with the removed seating to be donated to other countries following the World Cup.

Three more stadiums are expected to break ground in Qatar by the end of this year, with plans to build 10 in total by 2022.
