The South Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture has recognised 14 projects at the 2013 Landscape Architecture Awards, with the North Terrace Stages 2 and 3 by Taylor Cullity Lethlean taking home the Medal for Landscape Architecture.

Praised by the jury for its role in the positive transformation of Adelaide, the North Terrace project has been re-established as a coherent place of civic pride, and a place fitting for the state’s major institutions, a public plaza, as well as a symbol of the city’s capacity to transform itself.

The Adelaide Zoo People Project by HASSELL took home the Design in Landscape Architecture – Award for Excellence. It was commended for resolving the complex challenges that come with accommodating panda habitats, while providing for visitor experience and education.

“This exuberant and beautifully executed design creates a high level of anticipation for visitors, celebrating the rare and precious pandas it houses and elevating the experience for all,” noted the judges.

Fifth Creek Studio’s Where Science meets Design project won the Award of Excellence in Landscape Architecture (Research and Communication) – Living Architecture.

The research project builds on preceding research, providing a locally tested evidence base for urban greening projects, and communicating the findings to national and international audiences.
