Public spaces and city landmarks have triumphed at the 2015 South Australian Architecture Awards, announced by the Australian Institute of Architects on Friday, July 3.

As was the case with the WA Architecture Awards, it was a collaborative effort from some of the state’s big names in architecture that took out the program’s most coveted honour, the Jack McConnell Award for Public Architecture, which went to the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment by Cox Architecture, Walter Brooke and Hames Sharley.

The project was also joint recipient of the City of Adelaide Prize, the Colorbond Prize for Steel in Architecture and also picked up a Commendation in the Urban Design category.

Continuing the accolades for public projects, the rejuvenation of the Hart’s Mill precinct into a family-friendly destination that retains the Port’s historical character earned Mulloway Studio and Aspect Studio the David Saunders Award for Heritage.

The Sustainable Architecture prize went to the Jeffrey Smart Building, University of South Australia by John Wardle Architects in association with Phillips/Pilkington Architects, which was also chosen as the best Educational Architecture project for 2015.
