The 2013 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards have revealed the winners with a list that includes some of the most lauded projects in Australia.

Winning projects include the Darling Quarter, designed by fjmt; the New Royal Children's Hospital by Billard Leece Partnership and The Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel and Residences designed by Buchan Group, among many others.

Lend Lease’s $500 million Darling Quarter and Commonwealth Bank Place development in Sydney received four awards including the property industry’s coveted ‘Gold Logie’ - the Australian Development of the Year.

The project also received the Colliers International Award for Best Office Development, the WSP Award for Best Sustainable Development - New Building, and the Project Control Group Award for Best Workplace Project.

Chief Executive of the Property Council of Australia, Peter Verwer said:

“This year’s awards showcase the depth and breadth of outstanding projects from around Australia. From 107 finalists across 16 categories nationwide, the winning projects reinforce our industry’s ongoing and outstanding commitment to leading-edge practice,” said Verwer.

Westfield’s $1.2 billion redevelopment in the heart of Sydney received two honours - the Woodhead Award for Best Mixed Use Development and the Redpath Partners Award for Best Shopping Centre Development.

Westfield’s former National Operations Manager, Ross Copland, also took home the Judd Farris Award for Future Leader of the Year for developing a portfolio-wide sustainability project which has made significant cuts to Westfield Australia's resource consumption.

The $1 billion Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne was judged Australia’s best public building of 2013. The 357 bed hospital won the John Holland Award for Best Public Building.

The Port Coogee coastal and brownfield remediation project in West Australia, which on completion will include 800 homes, 1,100 apartments, a 300 berth marina and a vibrant retail commercial tourism precinct for 4,000 people, was presented with the RPS Award for Best Master Planned Community.

Willoughby City Council was presented with the Philip Chun Award for Government Leadership for The Concourse, one of the largest and most successful local government projects delivered in Australia over the last decade.

The CareerTrackers Indigenous Internship Program, which connects the property industry with talented young Indigenous Australians, was presented with the Spiire Award for Innovation.

Greystanes Estate Development, located on 110 hectares of land in Sydney’s west, won the BlueScope Buildings Award for Best Business or Industrial Park.

Dee Why RSL Club on Sydney’s Northern Beaches was rewarded for its innovative approach to seniors’ living,

taking out the Gadens Lawyers Award for Best Retirement Living Development.

The first luxury hotel to be built on the Gold Coast in a decade, the Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel and Residences, was presented with the Ryan Lawyers Award for Best Tourism and Leisure Development.

The Garden House in Melbourne, a development comprising comprises 46 luxury apartments overlooking the world heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, won The Village Building Company Award for Best Residential Development.

The RM Hope Building, one of the first erected within Canberra’s Parliamentary Triangle, won the S4B Studio Award for Best Heritage Development.

And the sustainable transformation of 215 Adelaide Street in Brisbane was rewarded with the Thinc Award for Best Sustainable Development - Existing Buildings.

RLB Chairman Asia Pacific, Michael Kerr, said the Innovation and Excellence Awards provide an opportunity for the Australian property industry to recognise exceptional world-class developments and professionals across the country, and reward both established leaders and up-and-coming talent.

“We have partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present this outstanding awards program since its inception in 1982, and are proud to see the best developments recognised again in 2013,” Kerr adds.
