Mode architects recently celebrated its 25-year anniversary at its new state-of-the-art office in Brisbane. Located in the heart of Fortitude Valley, the newly designed office space was the result of months of planning and creative thinking from Mode’s architectural and interior design teams.

Clients and managerial staff travelled from around Australia and New Zealand to attend the event at the new office. The night was also an occasion for the firm to acknowledge all design studios and leaders for their dedication to the practice.

Mode’s founder and Managing Principal Rhonan O’Brien, who has a reputation of heading multimillion dollar projects across a number of sectors throughout the Pacific, said he was very proud of the team in achieving targets that were set out in 2011 towards establishing a ‘national presence’ for the practice.

O’Brien also acknowledged the support of the four other principals and their partners, the whole of the management and the operations team for their continued support.

The Mode network now consists of 10 design studios across Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam with over 165 staff and a turnover in excess of $20 million. The success of the practice, says the firm, encouraged them to build and design its new 820sqm office space in the Mosaic building on the corner of Ann and James Street in Fortitude Valley. The build took over eight months to complete with a design highlight being the provision of two separate areas for staff and clients.

Katie Holman, Mode’s lead architect on the project explained that the team worked hard to keep a connection between the two sides of the office by using flooring strips and ceiling panels to create a ‘loop connection’ throughout. Design highlights also include the use of contrasting materials and finishes to accentuate the industrial exposed ceiling and finished timber panels throughout both spaces, and more options for entertainment and dining with large lunch and communal areas to cater for the growing staff population.
