The Australian Interior Design Awards aims to acknowledge and celebrate the best and the brightest in Australian residential and commercial interior design.

The Awards received 499 entries this year with residential, hospitality and retail projects remaining strong.

“The calibre of these entries was formidable,” says jury convenor Joanne Cys, Associate Professor in Interior Architecture at the University of South Australia and past national president of the Design Institute of Australia.

“All on the national judging panel worked long and hard to reach agreement; there were so many designs to feel passionate about.”

The eighth year of the event sees the introduction of the Sustainability Advancement Award, replacing the previous Environmentally Sustainable Design Award.

“Consideration for this Award is now automatic, on entry into one of the Primary Award categories,” says Joanne Cys, “This is a direct reflection of a change in the attitude of the design community and society at large. Sustainability is a cornerstone issue for us all.”

The event runs in partnership with DesignEX, and the official announcement and presentation of overall winners will take place in Melbourne on Friday 15 April, 2011.
