Turner + Associates will lead the design of a new $125-Million residential and retail development called Link at Zetland in South Sydney.

The building will be set on a triangular island site that allows light and air to circulate and provides unobstructed views in all directions.

The site is 11,366 square metres and there will be a 3,200 square metre public plaza, potentially housing a childcare centre, gymnasium and a commercial showroom.

There will be two buildings constructed on the perimeter of the site which will surround parkland to be irrigated by rainwater collected and stored underground.

The first stage of the build will be 72 apartments with the second stage to be the construction of a 14-storey tower of 157 apartments.

The architects said that the façade will have splayed walls with articulated blades, vertical fins, geometric proportions and bificating ends which will 'generate an inter-play of light and shadow, creating the illusion of movement'.

The building will also feature textured concrete against smooth painted surfaces in a multitude of colours including 'pistacio and ox blood' as well as some refined metal cladding.

Two large planter boxes containing mature trees will jut out at different heights from the facade.

Dan Szwaj from Turner + Associates said:

“A bonus for residents is a private 2,000square metre landscaped retreat with lawns, seating nooks and gardens. This will be planted on top of a colonnade of shops, retail services and dining options.”

Swaj added that solar energy has been incorporated as well as other design aspects.

“Apartments are predominantly cross ventilated with optimised solar access, and those on the upper floor will have views over Moore Parkand The Australian Golf Course.”

The interiors of the apartments will come in two colour schemes either black or white and will be fitted out with:

  • Reconstituted stone kitchen benchtops
  • Stainless steel Smeg appliances
  • Coloured splashbacks
  • Quality polyurethane joinery
  • Full height mirrored wardrobes, and
  • Timber highlights
