An upcoming forum with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and Hobart City Council will explore the potential for the redevelopment of Hobart’s waterfront.

Last month the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects partnered with Hobart City Council and Grating Tasmania to hold the second event in ‘City Talks: an Urban Design Seminar Series’.

The October event, ‘Lost? Why Great Cities Point People in the Right Direction’, hosted over 50 professionals including planners, architects, local government officials and landscape architects to hear two inspiring speakers that shared their insights in creating successful and innovative infrastructure for wayfinding in the city.

November 9 at 11:30am, City Talks will continue with its third event entitled, “Design of the Public Waterfront: the Great Untapped Potential of Hobart’s Foreshore.”

Two speakers will continue the debate on urban design excellence based around the potential for the redevelopment of Hobart’s waterfront.

Sacha Coles, of ASPECT Studios, discusses how the Sydney harbour landscape has been significantly transformed into a connected, publicly accessible landscape that links significant cultural sites. He will also discuss how strong governance helped to achieve this result.

Tony McCormick, of HASSELL, will overview some ingredients for a successful waterfront. He will focus on Darwin’s waterfront, which has been a catalyst for the reinvention of the city.

The talks are part of a series about the role of landscape architecture and urban design in urban areas, towns and cities focused around existing state and local government projects in Tasmania.

All built environment professionals and those interested in urban design are encouraged to attend.
