Scandinavian firm C. F. Møller has revealed proposals that could see the world's tallest timber-framed building constructed in Stockholm. The 34-storey Wooden Skyscraper was presented by the architects as a vision of future housing that they believe would be cheaper, easier and more sustainable than typical steel and concrete constructions.

+ Pool, the ambitious project to float a public swimming pool in New York’s East River, has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund “Tile by Tile,” what will be the largest crowdfunded civic project to date. Those who back the pool will be rewarded by having their name engraved on one of the pool’s 70,000 tiles.

Taipei, Taiwan

A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the Taipei Pop Music Center, marking the beginning of construction of the immense music venue. Designed by Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture PC with local architects Fei and Cheng, the centre will consist of several mixed-use spaces woven together into a dynamic, multi-purpose venue that supports Taiwan’s evolving pop music industry.

Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners’ Leadenhall Building topped out this week, making it the tallest tower the City of London financial district. The distinctive ‘cheesegrater’ tapered profile is designed to protect the sight line of St Paul’s Cathedral. Work on the building is due to complete in 2014.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Burj Khalifa architect, Skidmore Owings & Merrill has added another skyscraper to the Dubai skyline with the completion of the twisted Cayan Tower. The 307-metre skyscraper, previously known as the Infinity Tower, contains 495 apartments within a towering helical form that rotates 90 degrees from base to peak. According to local publication Gulf News, future residents have already snapped up more than 80% of the 570 units on offer
