The 2014 Dulux Colour Awards are now open, with architects, designers, specifiers and students invited to showcase their creative use of colour in both residential and commercial design.

Going on to its 28th year, the Awards aim to recognise the imaginative use of colour by architects and interior designers in redefining the spaces they create.

In 2014, entry submissions that explore how colour complements structure and form are welcomed.

“Each year, the entries we receive push the envelope on how colour is not only used, but how it’s perceived,” says Dulux Colour & Communications manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr.

“In 2014, we’re looking forward to seeing architects, designers and specifiers, taking it that one step further with their innovative and inspiring application of colour.”

Atherton Gardens HUB Development project by McCabe Architects and Bird de la Coeur Architects

The Atherton Gardens HUB Development, designed by McCabe Architects and Bird de la Coeur Architects, was crowned the 2013 Dulux Colour Awards Grand Prix and Multi Residential Exterior winner.

According to Michael McCabe, the architectural project director at McCabe Architects, colour played a vital role in the design process of the development.

“We entered last year’s Dulux Colour Awards to not only show how the use of colour can stimulate the daily lives of those living in social housing, but also to promote how colour can assist with how a building is perceived in a heritage context,” says McCabe.

For 2014, entries are accepted across seven categories:

  • Commercial Interior
  • Commercial Exterior
  • Single Residential Interior
  • Multi Residential Interior
