Melbourne will soon welcome another edition of DesignBUILD, Australia’s ultimate event for the entire architecture, building, construction and design industry.

DesignBUILD returns to Melbourne in its 30th year with a host of features including a new show floor layout to allow for a more fluid experience onsite, with dedicated show floor sectors segmented into Landscape & Outdoor, Structural & Materials, Interior Fixtures & Finishes, and Technology, providing better product exposure for the most respected and innovative brands in the industry.

Standout features to be launched at DesignBUILD 2016 include DesignBUILD Incubator and DesignBUILD Raw, both focussed on new and emerging talent in the architecture, design and construction industries and offering a dedicated platform for new players and university students to connect with industry on a commercial scale.

DesignBUILD Event Manager Ali Mead explained that it was important for industry to have visibility over new and emerging talent; by integrating university student projects and giving entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their work, DesignBUILD aims to connect people and ideas to the right players. Mead added that it will also help new talent meet key industry decision-makers, and help propel them and the industry forward into the future.

Collaboration will be the overall theme of the event, with cross-disciplinary networking taking a key role across all features. For instance, the 2016 speaker program will be split into three key topics, Compliance, Sustainability and Innovation, and will feature leading international keynotes as well as local peak authorities to discuss and debate the key trends across all disciplines in 2016.

DesignBUILD - What’s new in 2016

Partners

DesignBUILD is delighted to be closely working with the peak industry bodies across the ABCD industry including the Australian Construction and Industry Forum (ACIF), the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA). New partners for 2016 include the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Building Designers Association of Victoria (BDAV) and a co-location with the Fire Protection Authority of Australia annual conference (FPAA).

DesignBUILD Incubator

A new show floor feature in 2016, DesignBUILD Incubator is designed to provide a launch platform for fresh talent and ideas in the industry. Free exhibition space will be given to five emerging industry talents to help them get the right start in the presence of key industry decision-makers.

DesignBUILD Raw

Working in partnership with RMIT and Deakin University, DesignBUILD will present the next generation of architecture and design professionals in an exciting display of rising talent. Tertiary students will compete to have their design realised with the winning projects being constructed right on the show floor. Students will design a brand new entrance feature and a statement lecture theatre, which will form key features of the show floor.

DesignBUILD returns to Melbourne 4-6 May 2016 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
