The City of Melbourne has officially adopted the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) declaration and recognised the interior built environment as a significant and integral part of architecture and urban life.

The council signed the declaration on 17 May at a ceremony attended by Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle, DIA President Julie Hobbs, Immediate Past President James Harper and CEO, Pru Sanderson and IFI representative Joanne Cys.

The Proclamation states that 'The City of Melbourne recognises the interior built environment as a significant and integral part of architecture and urban life.  It is proud to adopt this declaration alongside many other cities worldwide."

The signing took place as part of Melbourne International Design Week and was announced to an audience of 500 at the Australian Interior Design Awards presentation dinner that evening.
