The Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) – the government authority responsible for Melbourne’s rail network – has selected Beon Energy Solutions to design and build power systems for the CBD’s new, large-scale transportation infrastructure.

Beon’s power infrastructure is a crucial component of the state’s $10.9 billion Metro Tunnel Project, which will see the addition of five new underground railway stations in and around Melbourne CBD.

To support the significant new infrastructure, Beon will design and build two electricity substations. These substations will power the “enormous” tunnel boring machines that will be used to create twin underground tunnels measuring nine kilometres in length.

“Our arrangement with MMRA will see Beon construct two electricity substations. One substation will be built within the Domain Station construction zone, and the other within the Arden Station construction zone in North Melbourne,” said Beon’s general manager, Glen Thomson.

“We are proud to play an integral part in the construction of the Metro Tunnel to help deliver critical infrastructure for Victoria.”
