This month, the Art Gallery of NSW have held a number of community consultation sessions in the lead-up to the submission of a State Significant Development Application for the $380-million, SANAA-designed expansion of the gallery.

Held across Sydney and regional NSW, these events are open to all members of the public. They have given people the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions and provide feedback on what has been dubbed the Sydney Modern Project.

Remaining dates include Thursday 19 October (Newcastle), Friday 20 October (Wollongong), and Monday 23 October (Broken Hill). Details regarding venues can be found here.

Anyone who has been unable to attend a consultation session can provide their feedback in an online survey

The Gallery will be submitting the State Significant Development Application to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment at the end of the year. This application will be exhibited to the public for community feedback.

Construction on the project is slated to begin in early 2019. The timing for completion is hoped to coincide with the gallery’s 150th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2021.
