A Melbourne footbridge and an architectural design service were among the winners of the 2017 Victorian Premier’s Design Awards.

The annual awards recognise and reward Victoria’s best designers and businesses across the categories of: Architectural Design, Communication Design, Digital Design, Design Strategy, Product Design, Service Design and Student Design.

Taking out the Architectural Design category was Tanderrum Bridge by John Wardle Architects and NADAAA in collaboration with GHD, Oculus, ElectroLight and Buro North. The footbridge links the parklands of Birrarung Marr on the Yarra River’s north bank, with the outer courts of Melbourne Park. The bridge features a flat steel girder structure encased in concrete, which is then wrapped in a lightweight filigree-like skin of steel rods.

A service called My Architect received the award for Service Design. According to the company behind the initiative, “by offering quality architectural services in a more accessible, flexible, transparent format, with a team of handpicked registered architects, My Architect is transforming the way Australian property owners embark on their renovations and new builds”.
