The NSW Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) has kicked off its 2015 Architecture Awards program with the first of the regional awards announced for Newcastle.

Announced on 12 March at Merewether Surfhouse, the 2015 Newcastle Awards saw 11 projects receive awards or commendations across eight categories.

Schreiber Hamilton Architecture was the most successful practice on the night, receiving the top honour—the Award for Excellence - and the Educational Architecture Award for their Sister Marie Centre project at St Pius X High School (Adamstown).

Schreiber Hamilton’s Hunter Valley Farmhouse in Fullerton Cove was also well received by the jury and was awarded the Residential Architecture – Houses (New) and the Colorbond Award Steel for Architecture.

The practice’s director Kevin Schreiber also received a Recognition for Professional Legacy award, topping off a successful night for the firm.

All the awarded projects will now progress to the NSW Architecture Awards to be announced July 2.
