The 7th Design Institute of Australia (DIA) Victoria-Tasmania Graduate of the Year Awards (GOTYA) have been announced, with the winners selected by ten participating Victorian and Tasmanian Tertiary Institutes including Monash University, Academy of Design Australia, and University of Tasmania.
The Overall Graduate of the Year prize went to RMIT University’s Cassandra Byrnes, who also took out the Fashion & Textile Design award. Thirteen other graduates were recognised, each having submitted anonymous portfolios assessed by a panel of judges from each category’s design discipline.
Each portfolio was evaluated on apparent design solutions, transferrable workplace skills, and the graduates’ predicted impact on the Australian design industry. GOTYA recipients will now progress on to the DIA Australasian Graduate of the Year Awards, which will be announced at Federation Square Atrium Square in Melbourne on May 13, 2015.
