The ‘Living Room’ is a standalone structure used for indoor/outdoor living. Shrouded in plants, it is designed to be low maintenance, low running, recyclable, and to disappear into the landscape – a creation to be enjoyed by the owners and occupants, as well as the local community and wild life.
Hard industrial materials take on a soft organic form in this project, with natural colours that patina with age. Passive heating and cooling work beyond expectation, while recycled items utilised throughout juxtapose the soft landscape.
A green roof with native grasses and bedims also hides and blends the structure with its environment. Camouflaging itself within, the native bee hives further ensures Living Room impacts not only its immediate surroundings but also the wider landscape.
Adding to these ideas of sustainable environments and communities, the Living Room also promotes a sustainable lifestyle, with the project oriented for maximum solar gain and favourable breeze capture.
