A consortium has been appointed to design and build the new
$1 billion Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, the architectural design team
led by Design Inc and Silver Thomas Hanley in partnership with McBride Charles
Ryan.
Victorian Minister for Health David Davis and Federal
Minister for Health Tanya Plibersek in December joined together to formally
appoint Plenary Health as the successful consortium to build the new facilities.
The contract signing followed the successful conclusion of a
structured negotiation phase, undertaken in accordance with national
public-private-partnership (PPP) guidelines.
The lead parties within the Plenary Health consortium are
the Plenary Group as sponsor and investor, Grocon and PCL as the builder in a
joint venture and Honeywell as the facilities/ maintenance manager.
“This contract signing means construction of the two new
VCCC facilities, on the site of the former Royal Dental Hospital in Parkville
and across the road on the Royal Melbourne Hospital City Campus, will start
shortly,” Davis said.
Construction of the VCCC facilities is expected to be
complete by the end of 2015, with commissioning and service delivery to
commence in 2016.

The VCCC aspires to be one of the best comprehensive cancer centres in the
world through the collaboration of recognised leaders in cancer research,
treatment and care.
As a designated strategic project under the Victorian
Industry Participation Policy (VIPP), there is a mandated ninety per cent
minimum local content requirement applying to the overall design, construction
and fit-out of the new VCCC facilities.
