An artist who can’t afford to travel is using Google Street View to paint the world’s most inspiring buildings and streetscapes.

Wanderlust has led Bill Guffey to spend hundreds of hours globe trotting online and visiting iconic landscapes.

Guffey sometimes picks a place name out of a hat and virtually walks around until he finds a scene he wants to paint. He has created over 100 paintings, among them a red phone box in London’s Trafalgar Square, an isolated house in Scotland, a yellow taxi in New York, and a Dutch canal boat.

The self-taught oil painter lives in a very rural area and says using the mapping service he can search out different panoramas and navigate them using a 360-degree horizontal angle and a 290-degree vertical angle.
