Disegno Australia’s Prima Tower project at 31-49 Queensbridge Street in Southbank, Melbourne, has topped out at the 72nd floor, helping the development earn its title as the second tallest tower in the city.

Developed by Schiavello and PDG (Disegno Australia is PDG’s in-house design studio) with construction led by Brookfield, the residential building is moving ahead of schedule, and was created with a total of 41,700 cubic metres, or an average of 66 cubic metres of concrete each day.

This level of onsite production was matched by the installation of more than 4.5 tonnes of steel every day.

The 253 metre tower was designed with a distinctive curtain wall façade, and features an oval shape that will reduce wind pressures. Double-glazed coloured glass will furthermore lessen the building’s heating and cooling loads.

Disegno Australia worked with a team of architects and designers to guide the project from its inception, with the building's bronzed glass facade moving elegantly from a concave to a convex curve over the full height of the 72 level tower.

The apartment tower's 658 apartments offer one, two and three bedroom configurations with penthouse suites and balconies on the upper floors. A ‘sky lounge’, made available on levels 67 and 68, will contain lounge and dining amenities, as well as a pool, spa and sun deck.

Level 9 of the podium will include other resort-style leisure and entertainment facilities, including a kitchen, lounge, fully-equipped gym, cinema, virtual golf driving range and an external barbeque area.

The podium will also feature 811 square metres of A Grade commercial space.

Construction is expected to be completed in early 2015.
