Australia’s construction and design industry will be well represented at the 2014 AustCham Westpac Australia China Business Awards (ACBA) on May 29 in Shanghai.

Three Australian firms, Place Design, Greater Group and Spaceframe have all been shortlisted as finalists for the ACBAs to be announced at an awards gala dinner.

A shortlist of 27 finalists from seven categories has been announced, with Place and Greater to compete in the Business Excellence Award for Construction & Design, and Spaceframe in the Sustainability & CSR category.

Boral Australia is another notable finalist from the Industry—they were shortlisted in the Manufacturing category.

2014 saw a record number of entries for the awards, making the task of selecting finalists extremely difficult for the judges.

Craig Aldous, one of the judges for the ACBA said, “It was a tremendous experience for me to read the stories of so many quality companies that are achieving outstanding results in China and being truly innovative in their approach to business.”

Now in its 22nd year, the ACBA’s publicly recognise and celebrate companies that have worked to deliver Australian products or services to the Greater China region.

The awards recognise the successes of companies across a broad spectrum of categories, with a hope to encompass small entrepreneurs through to the largest Australian publicly listed companies.

Andrew Whitford, from Westpac Banking Corporation is proud to be a part of the program and credits the success of the awards to “the growing number of Australian businesses taking the leap into China”.

“The AustCham Westpac Australia-China Business Awards celebrates those Australian companies whose initiative has led them to new business frontiers in China. With the growing number of Australian businesses taking the leap into China, Westpac is proud to be part of a program that helps them on this journey,” said Whitford.

The finalists and winners of the program will receive a promotional campaign package to benefit their business ventures in the Chinese market.

The package reaches the media, government entities and leading business decision makers across Greater China and in Australia.
