Woods Bagot is today opening the doors to its latest studio in Shanghai, China.
The firm has more than 60 projects under its belt in the country, as well as major upcoming architecture projects including Shengyang South China Landmark Mall, Yi Xing Residential Complex, Qingdao Yongxin International Plaza and Foshan New City.
Led by principal Mark Unger, the studio will include 35 architects, urban planners and interior designers.
The firm, which has operated in Asia for the past 25 years, said a Shanghai studio is a “natural extension” of its footprint in the market.
Ross Donaldson, global executive chairman and CEO of Woods Bagot, said he was “confident” that the Shanghai studio would deliver strong results for clients in the region.
The firm’s ventures in China would “raise the overall Chinese architectural benchmark” and advance design innovation and environmental sustainability within the region, Donaldson claimed.
Woods Bagot invests 2 per cent of its revenue to global research programmes.
The firm has been actively involved in shaping China’s fast-developing cities, with projects across Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Changsha and Shijiazhuang.
In Shanghai, the studio was the design architect for the recently-opened Plaza 353, the redevelopment of a 1932 Art Deco Mall located on Shanghai’s famed Nanjing East Road.
Woods Bagot was also appointed the design architect for the 45,000sqm retail mall at Kerry Parkside, the gateway to the Shanghai New International Expo Center.
