The brand new residential development The Quays has been completed on the corner of Docklands Drive and Harbour Esplande in Melbourne.

Designed by McBride Charles Ryan, the new $180 million towers were constructed by Brookfield Multiplex and are owned by MAB Corporation.

It consists of 600 apartments over two residential towers. Over 32 levels, the South Tower features 115 one bedroom apartments, 142 two bedroom apartments and 18 three bedroom apartments. While the North tower is slightly shorter, it spans 27 levels with 25 one bedroom, 75 two bedroom and 42 three bedroom apartments.

The Quays provides a new front to the Docklands area, while the curvilinear forms of the buildings help define the near-by urban spaces.

The facade features striking grey, pink and purple tinted glass, creating a gem in the skyline.

This high-performance curved glass facade adds to the ESD features of the building, which also include central gas water heaters and gas cooking, and water-efficient fittings.

Additionally, rain gardens and tree pits have been constructed instead of traditional draining systems to feed the stormwater management system. This allows more rainfall to be taken in by the system, thus reducing the heat island effect of urban developments.

The system relies on the retention and treatment provided by the rain gardens at ground level. A harvesting system on the rooftop will supply water to common area toilets, pool, cleaning and irrigation demand.

Additional facilities in The Quays include a swimming pool, spa, sauna, gym and yoga studio, as well as a resident club including a library, business centre, private dining room and cinema lounge.

The rooftop features a tennis court and clubhouse with outdoor dining areas, a BBQ and landscaping.
