The 2014 Sydney Architecture Festival will host international architectural film competition ‘Cinecity’ on 9 November, a short-film exhibition that will be screened as a part of the festival finale.

Curated especially for the 2014 Sydney Architecture Festival, Cinecity: Connections will present 25 films – each 60 seconds in length – during one sitting at the Golden Age Cinema.

The films were selected by Sarah Breen Lovett and Louise Mackenzie from entrants in the Cinecity Architectural Film Project, an international open architectural film competition where architects, filmmakers, artists and academics make un-edited 60 second films exploring architectural ideas.

The Cinecity: Connections event at Golden Age Cinema will be introduced by the curators with guests invited to join in a discussion following the screening with some of the film-makers. The central theme for the night is the exploration of connecting people with the city through transport mediums, and sometimes the reverse.

Cinecity co-curator Sarah Breen Lovett said:

"This event offers different perspectives on the importance of transport and infrastructure, as well as the life and pulse of the city.

“Films presented in Cinecity: Connections explore the urban fabric of cities; the concept of home; and transport ranging from cars, trains and boats through to bicycles.

“The Cinecity screening also includes some of the choices from our judges over the last few years, including Zaha Hadid, Bernard Tschumi and Penelope Seidler amongst others.

“Of particular interest is the film Mystic Alien Boarding by Sydney-based architect and artist Richard Goodwin, which relates to his broader body of work around the porosity of the city,“ added Breen Lovett.”

The films will be presented at the intimate Golden Age Cinema - seating up to 70 guests - located in the heritage Paramount Pictures Building in Surry Hills that was recently refurbished by Fox Johnston Architects. The building won a NSW Architecture Award commendation in 2014 for creative adaptation of a heritage building.

The event will round-up the ten-day Sydney Architecture Festival presented at locations across greater Sydney from 1 until 10 November 2014. The Sydney Architecture Festival is an annual public event presented by the Australian Institute of Architects (NSW Chapter) and the NSW Architects Registration Board that seeks to create a better understanding of architecture.
