Australian architecture and design firm PTW Architects has designed a golden stadium with ecological features and high standard sports facilities for the 2015 All-Africa Games taking place in Republic of the Congo.

Set to be constructed in Brazzaville, the $500m development will contain a 60,000-seat stadium, a 10,000-seat indoor stadium, a 2,000-seat aquatics centre, ancillary facilities and various outdoor venues.

According to the architects, the stadium’s shiny golden facade was inspired by the “sun’s rays, as a symbolic interpretation of the longevity of the games and the excitement and colour that competition brings to the African countries participating in the event.”

The design also takes into account traditional African culture, with water and natural vegetation interwoven throughout the master plan to symbolize the continent’s natural glory.

2015 will mark the 50-year anniversary of the first All-African Games and PTW’s stadium is sure to play a part in the celebrations of the significant sporting and cultural event.
