Sydney is edging closer to having a new city 'highline' similar to the one in New York City following a proposal to build on 500 metres of industrial railway track which divides Ultimo from Haymarket.
Aspect Studios with Choi Ropiha Fighera have been selected by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority to design and deliver Sydney's Ultimo Pedestrian Network, now known as UPN - The Goods Line.
The walkway will sit four metres above street level and will aim to provide improved pedestrian and cyclist access and circulation from the Railway Square bus and train interchange into the south-west corner of Darling Harbour.
The Planning Minister, Brad Hazzard told the Sydney Morning Herald: ''I think it's fair to say it's Sydney's version of the New York High Line.''
The Powerhouse Museum, The ABC, TAFE - Sydney Institute, the City of Sydney Council, and Infrastructure NSW and UTS will all have a direct investment in the project.
The plans are currently in the process of being approved by the City of Sydney with work to begin by next June and completion set for the end of 2013.

Architecture and Design reported earlier in the year on a proposal by David Vago from Habitation to create a green walkway to be made from the soon to be pulled down monorail however there has been no news on whether this idea was taken further.
